I have always felt that every man has two sides in his heart: one wild and unrestrained and the other quiet and elegant. When we are wild and uninhibited, we can drink and sing; when we are silent, we can drink and taste tea.
I am open about wine and tea (of course, it can be all right). Sometimes, it is more of a state of mind rather than drinking and drinking tea itself. Daily life and work pressures always make me breathless, and even my temper has gradually become impatient. Drinking tea, or more precisely tasting tea, can make people calm and peaceful. Boil water, make a pot of tea, taste it carefully, and make the whole person simple.
As a watch practitioner and fan, I have already integrated watches into my life. Sitting quietly at home, drinking hot tea, reading a book about watches, and reading for a while are not tasteful but enjoyable.
The ancients once said:
- To appreciate flowers, you must make friends with the rich.
- To watch prostitutes, you must make friends with the indifferent.
- To climb mountains, you must make friends with those who are idle.
- To go boating, you must make friends with the vast.
- To face the moon, you must make friends with the cold.
- To wait for snow, you must make friends with the beautiful.
- To catch wine, you must make friends with the poetic.
This means that only the right environment and the right friends can ensure the right state of mind. After drinking alone for a long time, something is missing. Isn’t it better to drink alone than to enjoy it with others? What I mean by “enjoyment with others” here refers to sharing. Sharing is effortless. Everyone gives what they have to others to gain happiness and relieve sorrow. This is sharing. Invite a few like-minded friends to make tea and discuss the table, which can relax the mood and increase knowledge and experience. Isn’t it a pleasure?
Tea originated in China. “Shennong’s Herbs” This book contains a record of the origin of tea: “Shennong tasted hundreds of herbs, encountered 72 poisons every day, and tea was used to cure them.” There is a legend about this record. It is said that when Shennong was tasting hundreds of herbs to make medicine, he was poisoned by eating golden green rolling beads and fell under the tea tree. Dew flowed from the tea leaves into Shennong’s mouth and cured Shennong of the poison. From then on, people used tea.
The earliest tea was used to detoxify, and in the Zhou Dynasty, the Zhou people, who attached great importance to sacrifice, offered tea as a sacrifice to the gods. In the Spring and Autumn Period, tea was used for food. In the Western Han Dynasty, in the third year of Shenjue of Emperor Xuan of the Western Han Dynasty, the first paragraph of “Tong Yue” written by Wang Bao mentioned “fish and turtle, all the utensils for making tea,” and the second paragraph said “buy tea in Wuyang,” which shows that tea was widely planted in the Western Han Dynasty, and the yield was very high. By the time of Wang Bao, tea had become a necessity for the literati.
The origin of clocks and watches can be traced back to Italy in 1350 (the clocks and watches we are talking about here are not hourglasses, armillary spheres, etc.). Since Dante of Italy made the first simple mechanical clock, the daily error was 15 to 30 minutes, and the indicating mechanism was only the hour hand. After more than 450 years, wristwatches appeared. According to historical records, in 1806, Napoleon’s wife, Queen Jopifen, made a watch for the princess, the earliest watch record. This watch focuses on decoration and is made into a bracelet. At that time, pocket watches as a symbol of identity and status were popular in the men’s world, and watches were regarded as women’s accessories. Rolex copy watches.
Tea drinking flourished in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. In the middle of the Tang Dynasty, tea became widely popular in the Yangtze River Basin and its southern areas. It quickly spread from the region’s south to the Central Plains and border minority areas. The government also began to levy taxes on tea sold to border areas. Before the Tang Dynasty, tea was only sporadically recorded in medical and cultural works, and monographs on tea only appeared in the Tang Dynasty. Tea banquets, tea parties, and tea snacks were no longer limited to the etiquette of entertaining guests. They were also widely popular in people’s daily lives, as they met friends, discussed affairs with tea, and shared interests with tea.
Tea drinking flourished during the Tang Dynasty and became popular after the Song Dynasty. The Song Dynasty inherited the Tang Dynasty’s aspirations, and the trend of tea drinking became increasingly popular. The Song people changed Tang’s method of boiling tea to making tea. In the early years of the Southern Song Dynasty, the emergence of the process of brewing tea made tea drinking easier and thus became famous.
When it comes to watches, the first thing people think of is Switzerland. Although Switzerland is closely associated with watches today, the watch industry has slowly risen. Early watches were regarded as luxury goods for wealthy monarchs and nobles or precious instruments for scientific purposes and were first used to measure navigation latitudes. At that time, Switzerland had neither nobles nor sailing ships. There was a dramatic change in the second half of the 16th century. Due to the Huguenot War in France, the population fled, and the Huguenot priests fled to the mountains of Geneva, Switzerland, and Swiss watchmaking technology began to develop.
At first, watch production and innovation were mainly concentrated in Geneva. But soon, the watchmaking industry expanded to the Jura Mountains, especially in the canton of Neuchâtel. By the 17th century, many families in the canton of Neuchâtel were engaged in the watchmaking industry. However, they mainly focused on producing pocket watches and working timekeeping tools. From the 18th century, Neuchâtel began to manufacture pendulum clocks, which were enough to compete with products from Paris. In the mid-19th century, the Swiss watch industry developed rapidly in the cantons of Solothurn and Bern. By 1890, half of Switzerland’s exported watches came from the Bernese Jura region, such as Saint-Imier, Freibergen, Ajoie, and Biel. By the end of the 19th century, in addition to the Jura region, Schaffhausen and Basel also became bases for the watch industry.
Tea can be divided into black tea, yellow tea, white tea, oolong tea, dark tea, and green tea. The first five types of tea are all made based on green tea, but the fresh leaves used and the manufacturing processes used are different, so the colors, aromas, tastes, shapes, etc., of the six major types of tea are also different. In addition to these six categories, there are various reprocessed teas, including scented tea.
According to their uses, watches can be divided into economic watches, jewelry watches, business formal watches, sports watches, and collection imitation watches. Economic watches often refer to those that are industrially produced in large quantities. The batch is large, and the price is more acceptable to the public. Women mainly wear jewelry watches, which can also be regarded as women’s formal watches.
Business formal watches are severe, high-quality watches that we often wear daily. They are usually elegant round or exquisite square watches with black or brown leather straps. They also have some more practical functions. In many people’s minds, watches with dual time zones or world time functions suit business people.
Sports watches are a more general classification, including professional and so-called “elite sports watches.” Professional sports watches, as the name implies, are functional watches designed for various professional sports, such as specialized watches for diving, flying, sailing, etc. “Elite sports watches” are luxury sports watches. In addition to having a high-end watch-level movement, such watches must also be equipped with a case with exquisite shape and artistry. However, because it is a sports watch, the material is often made of steel, which is not frequently used in luxury watches, which is very popular among elites.
Collection watches primarily refer to watches that have collection value and are often used for collection. Super-complex watches are mostly the mainstream collection-level watches. There are also some concept watches, etc., which will not be introduced here individually.
During holidays, invite a few like-minded friends to drink tea at home. Sometimes, friends will bring some good tea from their collection, brew it in a small pot, and taste it with each other. This also has a name in tea culture, called “tea fighting.”
“Tea fighting” originated in the Song Dynasty. Su Dongpo once wrote that “only Huisu likes tea fighting outside the mountains.” Tea fighting was developed based on tea tasting, also called tea tasting. The host invites three or five close friends to pour the brewed tea into a teacup and taste it carefully, like drinking wine. Tea fighting is different. Fighting, in Huizhou dialect, means fighting and winning.
When people who love watches get together, they also have a habit of rolling up their sleeves to see what watches they are wearing today and to evaluate each other. It is interesting to talk about watches occasionally, and sometimes drink and talk about tea.
